This girl portrait is a copy of an eighteenth century work of Jean-Baptiste Greuze, engraved in reverse and colors by Hauer, under the title "The Little Sister." The model for this engraving is surely the "Lazy Girl" which belongs to the collections of the Queen of England (London, Buckingham Palace). Greuze painted a second version of this composition, a portrait of "Girl" kept at the Musée Condé Chantilly, which has several variants. The two different interpretations of this portrait are often seen as preparatory studies for the head of the younger sister of the bride in "Granted village" (Salon of 1761, Paris, Louvre). It seems rather that the two tables are secluded recovery and this figure must be dated around 1765.
