Bierstadt arrived at Fort Laramie, in present-day Wyoming, as a member of the expedition to the western portion of the Nebraska Territory with Colonel Frederic W. Lander in June 1859, during a time of tense relations between the Western Sioux (Teton) and the United States government. Bierstadt made vivid field sketches of the Indians he encountered there, including this powerful depiction of the heads of four chiefs. The artist intently observed and recorded the costume and physiognomy of each man, inscribing each one’s name below his head. In the foreground of the major painting that resulted from this trip, "The Rocky Mountains, Lander’s Peak" (07.123), several of the male figures at the lower right may have been inspired by the present study.

In addition, it makes a good alternative to dibond or canvas fine art replicas. Your own replica of the artwork is made with state-of-the-art UV direct print technology. The major benefit of an acrylic glass fine art print is that sharp contrasts and also image details become more identifiable due to the precise tonal gradation of the picture. The acrylic glass protects your custom art replica against light and heat for many years to come.
  • Chapisho la bango (nyenzo za turubai): Our poster print is a printed flat canvas paper with a slightly rough surface finish, that reminds the original artwork. It is optimally appropriate for framing your fine art print with a custom frame. Please keep in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster print we add a white margin between 2-6cm around the painting to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
  • Uchapishaji wa turubai: A printed canvas, which should not be confused with a real painting on a canvas, is an image printed onto cotton canvas material. It produces a sculptural effect of three dimensionality. A canvas of this masterpiece will allow you to transform your art print into a large work of art as you would see in a true gallery. Hanging your canvas print: A canvas print has the advantage of being relatively low in weight, which means that it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without any wall-mounts.
